Important
Genymotion Desktop 3.1 does not officially support macOS BigSur. We recommend upgrading Genymotion Desktop to 3.2.0.
If you get the error message Failed to create Vbox host-only interface after upgrading macOs to Big Sur, you may need to follow these instructions:
Method 1
- Remove VirtualBox with the
VirtualBox_uninstall.tool
from the official VirtualBox dmg installer, from a rooted terminal - Re-install VirtualBox 6.1.16. The installer for macOs can be found at https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/6.1.16/VirtualBox-6.1.16-140961-OSX.dmg
- Reboot macOS. It is mandatory to reboot, otherwise VirtualBox will not be operational
Method 2
If this still doesn't work, try these:
- Boot to recovery (cmd+R) and use these commands:
csrutil clear
reboot
- Uninstall and re-install VirtualBox 6.1.16
- Go to System Preferences - Privacy - General to authorize the installation of VirtualBox kernel modules.
Method 3
If none of the previous methods worked, try this one:
- Uninstall VirtualBox with the uninstall tool found in the dmg (
VirtualBox_uninstall.tool
) - Restore SIP to default:
sudo csrutil clear
- Reboot
- Clear staging:
sudo kextcache --clear-staging
- Reboot
- Install VirtualBox 6.1.16 and follow system prompt to allow Oracle
Method 4
If none of the above works, some user have reported that installing/updating xcode fixes the issue. For more information about xcode, see https://developer.apple.com/support/xcode/
