How to setup laptops with hybrid graphics (dual GPU) to use Genymotion Desktop?

Hybrid graphics is a hardware configuration in which you have two graphics cards that can work in tandem with each other. This approach is mainly found in laptops where you have integrated graphics (iGPU) of your CPU, and discrete graphics (dGPU - NVIDIA or AMD).

Normally, the display drivers should be able to detect when an application requires high performance graphics or not, but this usually fails with Genymotion Desktop on Windows and it is necessary to force the high performance GPU globally.

First of all, check the Windows® Device Manager and verify that both GPUs appear on the list of hardware devices and they are enabled as shown in the screenshots below:

Then, follow the steps below.

NVIDIA high-performance discrete GPU (NVIDIA Optimus)

1. Right Click on your desktop
2. Click NVIDIA Control Panel
   
3. Click Manage 3D Settings on the left menu
4. Click the drop down menu for Preferred graphics processor under the Global Settings tab
5. Select High-performance NVIDIA processor from the list

   

6. Click Apply to save your changes.
7. Reboot your PC

AMD high-performance discrete GPU (AMD Switchable Graphics)

1. Right Click on your desktop
2. Click AMD Radeon Settings from the menu:
   
3. Click on Preferences
   
4. Click on Radeon Additional Settings
   
5. Drag the slider to Maximize Quality and click Apply
   
6. Reboot your PC
