Hardware
Important
Genymotion Desktop requires a x86_64 CPU. Therefore, it will not work on ARM-based Single Board Computers, such as Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi or Odroid. It is also not compatible with the mac M1 and M2 series yet.
We recommend the following hardware to use Genymotion Desktop with good performances:
- CPU: 64-bit Intel 6th generation or AMD Ryzen
- Graphics: OpenGL 3.0 or higher capable video card. NVIDIA or AMD GPUs are highly recommended on Windows.
- RAM Memory: 16GB or more
- Screen resolution: 1920x1080 or higher
- Free HD space: 120MB for Genymotion + 1GB per virtual devices
- Virtualization technology (VT/AMD-V/SMV): your CPU must support Virtualization Technology and it must be enabled in the BIOS/UEFI. For more details, see How to fix the error "Your CPU is incompatible with virtualization technologies"?
Windows
Supported Windows versions and editions
Genymotion Desktop has been designed for and tested on the following Windows versions:
- Windows 11 Home/Pro/Enterprise (64-bit)
- Windows 10 Home/Pro/Enterprise (64-bit)
Incompatible systems
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 are not supported.
- Windows for IoT, such as Windows 10 IoT Entreprise and Windows 10 IoT Standard, is not supported.
- Windows server editions are not supported.
- Genymotion Desktop will not run in a Windows Virtual Machine, from a hypervisor or a Cloud service provider.
- Genymotion Desktop is not available for Windows 32-bit.
Intel integrated GPUs
For some reasons, the Intel display driver for Windows do not work well with Genymotion Desktop on Windows systems. Therefore, we recommend using an NVIDIA or AMD GPU with Genymotion on Windows for best compatibility and performances.
Laptops
If you have a laptop or Notebook with dual GPU, you need to force Genymotion to use the high profile NVIDIA/AMD GPU.
Also, make sure that your laptop is plugged to the mains and performance settings are set to "Performance" or "Game mode".
Hypervisor
From Genymotion Desktop 3.3.0 onward, it is possible to choose between VirtualBox or QEMU (experimental).
VirtualBox
If you choose to use VirtualBox, please note that the recommended version is 7.0.4. We also offer an installer pack with this version of VirtualBox.
QEMU
QEMU on Windows requires Hyper-V (only available on Windows Pro/Entreprise) or HAXM (Intel CPU only) on Windows Home edition.
Note
QEMU support is still experimental and there are known issues on Windows systems. For more details, please refer to Genymotion Desktop release notes
Linux
Supported Linux distributions
Genymotion Desktop has been fully tested on the following distributions:
- Ubuntu 22.04LTS (64-bit)
- Debian 11 Bullseye (64-bit)
- Fedora Workstation 36 (64-bit)
Other distributions, such as Kali Linux or Arch Linux, are not officially supported.
Incompatible systems
- Genymotion Desktop will not run on a Linux Virtual Machine, from a hypervisor or a Cloud service provider.
- Genymotion Desktop will not run on a Linux server.
- Linux 32-bit is not supported.
Hypervisor
From Genymotion Desktop 3.3.0 onward, it is possible to choose between VirtualBox or QEMU (experimental).
QEMU
Unlike VirtualBox, QEMU uses kvm which is installed by default with our recommended distributions. Therefore, there is nothing to install if you choose this hypervisor.
VirtualBox
We do not have an installer for Linux with VirtualBox; it has to be installed separately. Please refer to Genymotion Desktop installation guide for Linux for instructions.
macOS
Supported macOS versions
Genymotion Desktop has been fully tested on macOS Monterey (12).
There are known issues with macOS Ventura (13), but it will be fixed in future releases.
Incompatible systems
- Genymotion Desktop will not run on a macOS Virtual Machine, from a hypervisor or a Cloud service provider.
- Genymotion Desktop does not support the mac 2020 M1 series yet.
Hypervisor
From Genymotion Desktop 3.3.0 onward, it is possible to choose between VirtualBox or QEMU (experimental).
QEMU
Unlike VirtualBox, QEMU uses Hypervisor which is installed by default on macOS. For detailed instructions, please refer to Genymotion Desktop installation guide for macOS.
